Art work isn't always pretty...

“I know art when I see it is bullshit said by those that are looking for sofa paintings or by those that think that Thomas Kincaid is a great artist (well that’s mean of me.) What it should be is a way to uncover and reveal deeply suppressed societal ills, injustices as well as political issues of the day. This doesn't mean that I don’t like “pretty” art, just that social art is more important to me. Even if you look at the old masters portraits of church elders, in many of them you can see clues as to how the artists really felt about the church.

Homo art has always been a way to unveil the secret desires of a disenfranchised queer community, as well as confronting the long held myth that only the female form is worthy of fine art. Look to the art of Walt Whitman, Tom of Finland and now artists such as Grease Tank and the Hun to find examples of how homo art has confronted the issue of raw sexuality. While many of the older, more classical pieces used symbolism that only the queer community might pick up on, the new crop of artist are bold in refusing to censor their own art.
